INDIGO-West fault off Perth

INDIGO-West, one of two direct Perth–Singapore cables, has been out of service since a shunt fault in early August inside the Perth Submarine Cable Protection Zone. A repair was completed on 15 September but traffic did not restore; the fault had become a full cut. Vocus says INDIGO-West restoration is currently scheduled for 24 October.

Impact

With the Australia Singapore Cable (ASC) also broken since 4 September, both direct Perth–Singapore systems are out of service. Traffic has been rerouted over longer paths.

Cause

SUBCO's co-CEO raised concerns about vessel activity near the faults, and the Australian Federal Police said it was assessing a report. No cause has been established.

    Vocus says INDIGO-West restoration is scheduled for 24 October, and that it has agreed to sequence the INDIGO-West repair ahead of ASC.

    An operator notice relayed by an ISP says restoration works finished on 15 September. Traffic failed to restore after power-up, and testing found the shunt fault had deteriorated into a full cut.
